Case, Shelves and Back Panel
Identify the side panels, top/bottom, fixed shelves and adjustable shelves before fastening the case. Many flat-pack bookcases rely on a thin back panel to keep the cabinet square, so the diagonal dimensions and corner alignment matter before that panel is nailed or screwed in place.
Shelf Pins, Loads and Configuration
Decide which shelves are fixed and which will remain adjustable. Shelf pins should fully seat in matching holes, and heavy items should be placed with the manufacturer’s load guidance in mind. A wide bookcase loaded with books behaves differently from a narrow decorative unit.
Baseboards and Wall Fit
A wall may not be perfectly plumb, and baseboards can keep the cabinet from sitting flat against it. Check the bottom profile and any cutout or spacer design supplied with the unit before forcing the case into position.
Anti-Tip Anchoring
Tall bookcases commonly include anti-tip hardware. The anchor must match the real wall substrate and the cabinet’s attachment point. Wall anchoring should not be improvised from hardware intended for a different surface. For built-in shelving rather than freestanding furniture, custom shelving and bookcase installation is a different service.
Multiple Units and Alignment
Side-by-side bookcases look better when their tops, fronts and shelf lines align. Floor variation can make identical cabinets sit at different heights, so leveling and spacing should be checked before any units are linked or anchored.

For bookcase assembly, assembly & installation remains the separate route when that adjacent need becomes the main customer task.
