Misalignment vs Hardware Failure
A door that reverses or will not close can be caused by blocked or misaligned sensors, but damaged wiring, dirty lenses or a failed component can create similar symptoms. Indicator lights and whether the problem changes when sensors are adjusted are useful clues.
Mounting Height and Line of Sight
Both sensors need stable mounts and a clear beam across the opening. Bent brackets, loose tracks or stored items can disturb alignment. Repair should restore a secure position rather than repeatedly twisting a loose bracket back into line.
Wiring and Opener Compatibility
Replacement sensors must match the opener system. Damaged low-voltage wiring can also interrupt the circuit. Broader motor/control issues belong on Garage Door Opener Installation & Repair.
Safety Function Matters
Do not bypass sensors to make a door close. Call NJ-GoodHome at (223) 226-1828 with model information and photos of both sensors and their wiring path.
Within a garage door sensor installation & repair request, garage, appliances & hvac and garage door installation & repair stay separate paths when either issue expands beyond this page’s scope.
