Inside Mount vs Outside Mount
Inside-mounted blinds and shades depend on usable depth and square opening dimensions. Outside-mounted products need enough wall or trim surface around the opening. Decide the intended mount before ordering or drilling.
Measuring the Opening
Measure width and height at multiple points because older openings may not be perfectly square. Follow the product manufacturer’s measuring method; the correct deduction or overlap can differ by product and mounting style.
Brackets and Substrate
Bracket screws may land in wood trim, framing, drywall or masonry depending on the window. The fastener should match the substrate and the weight of the shade or rod. Heavy drapery systems need more support than a light blind.
Curtain Rods, Tracks and Multiple Panels
Rod length, center supports and return depth affect how curtains stack and clear the window. Long rods can sag without a center bracket. Tracks and multi-panel systems need careful alignment so carriers move smoothly.
Motorized treatments may require existing power or low-voltage connections. New hardwired electrical work is separate scope. For smart control integration, use the appropriate smart home installation page.
