Overhead racks should attach to suitable framing according to the manufacturer layout. Drywall is only a finish surface. Joist direction, spacing and obstructions determine whether the product’s bracket pattern fits the intended location.
Garage Door and Opener Clearance
A rack can fit the ceiling height and still collide with an open garage door, track, opener rail or torsion hardware. Check the door in its fully open position before selecting rack depth and placement.
Stored Item Height and Access
Plan for the bins or objects that will actually go on the rack. Leave enough vertical clearance to lift items safely without striking ceiling fixtures or needing awkward reach over vehicles.
