Replacement Fan vs New Location
Replacing a fan where a fan-rated box and suitable wiring already exist is a different scope from creating a new fan point. A new location can require concealed wiring and qualified electrical work that is not assumed in basic mounting. When the request expands to wiring or several electrical devices, use general electrical services to separate that qualified work from fan assembly and mounting.
Fan-Rated Support
A standard light-fixture box may not be rated for the weight and motion of a fan. Confirm the support before installation. High, sloped or decorative ceilings can also require special downrods or mounting adapters. For a fan with an integrated light, confirm the complete unit and control requirements; if the project instead involves a separate ceiling light, light fixture installation and repair is the distinct scope.
Blades, Balance and Wobble
Blade brackets and blades should be installed consistently and tightened evenly. Wobble can come from loose hardware, blade differences or support movement. Balancing does not correct an unsafe ceiling box.
Controls and Existing Wiring
Wall switches, pull chains, remotes and smart controls must match the fan and available wiring. New circuits or rewiring remain qualified electrical scope. Light switch and dimmer installation covers control-focused requests. If a compatible fan must work with other connected home devices, discuss smart home installation separately from the fan’s physical mounting.
Outdoor Fans
Porches and damp locations require products rated for the exposure. The mounting surface and clearances also need to suit the fan size.
