Freestanding, Cabinet-Based or Utility Island
A movable furniture-style island may only need assembly and placement. A cabinet island with a stone top may require floor anchoring and support. Adding a sink, cooktop or outlets introduces plumbing/electrical scope that should be planned separately.
Aisle and Appliance Clearance
Measure walking space with dishwasher, oven and refrigerator doors open. An island can fit the room dimensionally yet make appliance access awkward. Seating overhang also needs enough clearance behind stools.
Floor and Countertop Support
Cabinet bases should sit level so countertop seams and overhangs behave as intended. Heavy stone or extended seating may need specified support. Existing finished flooring can affect anchoring method.

For kitchen island installation, kitchen remains the separate route when that adjacent need becomes the main customer task.
