Surface Damage or Tub Failure
Small chips, worn finish and localized caulk issues are different from cracks, movement or leaks around the tub. A cosmetic repair should not be used to conceal a structural shell problem or an unresolved water leak.
Replacement Changes More Than the Tub
Removing a tub can affect wall tile, surround panels, flooring and plumbing access. A replacement unit must fit the alcove or platform, drain location and existing surround geometry. Heavy tubs can introduce floor/support considerations.
Plumbing and Waterproofing Boundaries
Drain, overflow and supply changes may require qualified plumbing work. Wall waterproofing is a separate system from the tub itself. If the project becomes a conversion, use Tub-to-Shower Conversion.

For bathtub repair & replacement, plumbing & bathroom remains the separate route when that adjacent need becomes the main customer task.
