Jam, Leak or Failed Motor
A humming unit, complete silence and a leak around the flange or discharge each suggest a different issue. Never place hands inside the grinding chamber. Basic reset/jam conditions should be distinguished from electrical or mechanical failure.
Replacement Compatibility
Sink opening, mounting system and discharge height affect fit. Dishwasher drain connections may also be present. A new unit may require drain adjustments if its outlet differs from the old disposal.
Electrical Boundary
Plug-in and hardwired arrangements are not the same. New receptacles, circuits or wiring changes are qualification-dependent electrical work. Share a photo of the current connection instead of assuming it can be reused.
