Define What Is Staying
Some projects keep the existing footprint and change surfaces/fixtures. Others change the pan, curb, drain, wall layout or enclosure. Marking what remains helps distinguish a finish refresh from a rebuild.
Pan and Waterproofing Before Tile
The water-management system sits behind the visible tile and grout. If the pan or waterproofing is being replaced, those decisions should be made before tile size/layout. See Shower Pan Installation & Repair and Bathroom / Shower Waterproofing.
Fixtures and Plumbing Scope
Moving a drain or valve introduces plumbing work that is not automatically included. Product selection should account for existing locations unless relocation is separately scoped.
Enclosure and Accessibility
Door type, curb/threshold, grab bars and entry width can shape the final layout. Full-room projects belong to Bathroom Remodeling.
