Mesh Damage vs Frame Damage
A clean tear in mesh can often be re-screened if the aluminum or wood frame remains square. Bent rails, broken corners or missing pull tabs may make frame repair or full replacement more practical.
Mesh Type and Use
Standard insect screen, pet-resistant mesh and other screen materials differ in stiffness and visibility. The frame groove and spline size must work with the selected mesh rather than being chosen only for color.
Spline and Tension
Screen mesh needs even tension. Too loose and it wrinkles; too tight and a lightweight frame can bow. Corners should remain square as the spline is rolled into place.
Fit in the Window Opening
Measure the actual screen opening and note spring pins, clips or tabs. A well-screened frame is still unusable if it cannot seat in the window track or retainers.
