Retractable, Fixed or Sail-Type Shade
Retractable awnings use brackets and articulated arms; fixed awnings use rigid frames; shade sails depend on tension between several anchors. Identify the system before treating all shade products as one mounting job.
Wall, Fascia or Post Support
The attachment point needs enough structure for both weight and wind load. Vinyl siding or finish trim alone is not structural support. If blocking or new posts are needed, that work should be scoped separately.
Height, Projection and Door Clearance
Check that the shade clears doors, windows and exterior lights throughout its full range. Retractable arms need side and front clearance when open.
Weather and Manufacturer Limits
Use the product’s wind and weather guidance. This page does not promise a particular storm rating. Permanent electrical feeds for motorized awnings require qualified electrical scope.
For a roofed structure with posts, patio cover installation may better fit the project.

Within a awning & shade installation request, exterior & outdoor and arbor installation stay separate paths when either issue expands beyond this page’s scope.
