Attached or Freestanding Cover
An attached cover transfers part of its load to the house and needs a suitable structural connection plus careful flashing. A freestanding kit relies on its own posts and footings. That difference should be resolved before post locations and roof pitch are set.
Post Locations and Patio Use
Posts should not land where they block doors, steps, seating or main walking paths. Existing pavers or slabs may not automatically be suitable for every post load. New footings or structural concrete are separate work when required.
Roof Pitch and Drainage
Panels need enough slope and correct overlap to move water away from the building. If the cover meets the house, flashing and wall details deserve more attention than decorative trim. Gutters may also be relevant depending on the roof edge.
For an open slatted shade structure, see pergola assembly and installation. A full new patio surface belongs to patio construction.

For patio cover installation, exterior & outdoor remains the separate route when that adjacent need becomes the main customer task.
