Fixed-Slat, Louvered or Wall-Connected Pergola
Traditional kits use fixed rafters or slats. Louvered systems add moving roof components and sometimes motors. Attached pergolas introduce a building connection. Those systems should not share one assumed installation method.
Base and Post Anchors
Post bases must suit concrete, pavers over structural support, a deck or specified footings. Decorative pavers alone may not provide the required anchor. The frame should be squared before the overhead members are locked in place.
Louvers, Shade Panels and Drainage
Adjustable systems need clear movement and accurate beam spacing. Integrated gutters or downspouts should remain open and pitched as designed. Electrical work for motorized louvers is separate when it extends beyond product plug-in connections.
For a solid roof over a patio, see patio cover installation. A larger roofed pavilion has its own pavilion installation page.
