Identify the Material and Failure
Wood/composite decking, pavers and concrete fail in different ways. Loose deck boards may involve fasteners or framing; sunken pavers can point to base settlement; cracked concrete can reflect movement below the slab.
Surface Damage vs Structural Damage
A damaged deck board is not the same as a soft joist or loose ledger. Patio surface repair should also distinguish cosmetic cracks from movement. Structural problems can move the scope to broader deck repair or masonry/concrete work.
Drainage and Moisture
Water trapped against wood or beneath hardscape can cause recurring deterioration. Repair should consider why the area failed before the same material is put back in the same condition.
Matching Existing Materials
Older decking colors, pavers or concrete finishes may not match exactly after years of weathering. Replacement pieces should be selected with realistic expectations about color and texture variation.
For full new surfaces, use deck building or patio construction.
