Match the Base to the Structure
A lightweight shed, large gazebo and playset do not necessarily use the same foundation. Manufacturer instructions may call for a slab, piers, compacted aggregate, sleepers or another system. Start with that requirement and the actual site rather than choosing a base only by convenience.
Grade and Drainage
A level base can still perform poorly if surrounding grade sends water under the structure. Site preparation should consider runoff, low spots and the finished elevation relative to lawns or patios. Organic topsoil may need removal where stable compacted support is required.
Dimensions and Square Layout
Base dimensions should support the full bearing area without blocking intended anchors or drainage. Establish square diagonals before the structure arrives; correcting a trapezoid-shaped pad after walls are assembled is much harder.
Concrete or structural foundations can move into the primary foundation and concrete work scope. For gazebo-specific assembly, see gazebo assembly and installation.

For outdoor structure foundation installation, exterior & outdoor remains the separate route when that adjacent need becomes the main customer task.
