Measure the Clear Opening
Door slab width is not the same as usable clear passage because hinges, stops and handles reduce it. Measure the current clear opening and the target need before deciding whether hardware, door type or framing must change.
Wall and Header Conditions
Widening can require moving jambs and reframing the opening. Structural/load-bearing conditions cannot be assumed from appearance. Electrical switches, outlets or plumbing near the opening may also affect scope.
Door Choice After Widening
A wider swinging door needs more floor area. Pocket, barn or other door types may change the way space is used but have their own wall/hardware requirements. Pocket Door Installation & Repair remains a distinct service.
For a broader accessibility plan, see Mobility & Aging-in-Place Modifications.

For doorway widening, safety & accessibility remains the separate route when that adjacent need becomes the main customer task.
